VISION THERAPY SUCCESS STORY: Strabismus – Exotropia (eye turn outward)

I could still remember her first visit to the clinic few months ago. A case of Alternating Exotropia with oculomotor dysfunction and lack of stereopsis. She was already preparing her self for surgery coz she thought it was the only option even if deep inside she was afraid to go through surgery (recommended by her previous eye doctor) and there was no 100% guarantee that her eyes will be align after surgery.

She is an aspiring law student , and was very bothered because of her vision problem she gets easily tired when it comes to reading, she would use her finger to guide her so that she won’t lose her place when reading, gets headaches often , poor focus, poor attention span , poor concentration poor depth perception.

She got bullied since High school until college that caused her low self esteem. she thought there was something wrong with her for being clumsy , careless and had poor performance when it comes to sports even if she love sports she was still struggling with activities that require depth perception and sensory motor coordination like dancing. Before she always miss the ball no matter how hard she tried.

Thanks to her sister who was an Optometry Intern at Vision Science Institute and recommended her to schedule an appointment and do Vision Therapy.
After few months of Vision Therapy and Syntonics (Photo light Therapy), she attained good binocular vision, fusion and stereopsis.

She now knows how to use both eyes to work together as a team and notice the improvement not just the eye alignment but as well as her performance that improved her quality of life!

According to her life is more easy now, comfortable and hassle free.
She now loves to read with less headaches, does not lose her place when reading, she now enjoys 3D movies unlike before she thought 3D movies was a waste of money since all she saw was flat and was not able to appreciate it.

She has now good balance and good depth perception unlike before she thought that she was just clumsy in nature.

Most of all, She is now confident and ready to face her law school because she knows she possess the visual abilities to cope with the visual demand of Law school.
She said that when she becomes a lawyer , she will always remember this life changing experience and that she will always be forever grateful for Vision therapy and the whole team of Vision Therapy Philippines.

This case is living proof of what a behavioral optometrist can do to help patients with Amblyopia (Lazy Eye) and Strabismus (eye turn inward/ outward).

Thank you Sherisa Dizon for sharing us your story and being an inspiration to others. I am very proud of your achievement.👏🏻
